How to use ASCII Characters
Many font sets have extended characters, which simply means there are more characters than you see on your keyboard. You can access these characters in three ways. Using the instructions here and the chart above, you too can make weird looking names - wahoo! If the characters don't show up when you try it, be sure you're using a standard font such as Arial or Times New Roman. Many free fonts you find on the web don't have the extended characters.
1. For HTML use, you can just type in the numeric equivalent shown under the HTML heading into your page code and it will show up in a browser the way you see it in the Makes column. Be sure to include the &# at the beginning and the trailing semi-colon.
2. You can also type it in directly using the Alt key on your keyboard and the numbers pad. The numbers pad is the one on the right side of your keyboard, not the numbers above the letter keys. To do this, press down and hold the Alt key, and on the numbers pad type the number you see in the Ascii # column, then release the Alt key. If that doesn't work, add a 0 (zero) in front of the number.
3. The third way is to use the character entity name, which I don't show here. They are odd and hard to remember, it's easier just to refer to the number. The names are things like Æ and &brvbbar; - besides, many characters don't have entity names, so just quit being silly!
